Business cards and Website

Recently my very talented Graphic Designer friend Melanie helped me to design some business cards. I was very happy with how they turned out. (Click on the image to supersize) We also had a heap of fun designing my website together! Both of these things I have been meaning to do for a long time. Please have a look!

'Hope Flies'

A couple of years ago I did a gallery painting of a girl with a butterfly on her shoulder, called 'Hope' (it's actually my profile picture....the little box top right!). I received so much positive feedback for it that I decided to do another one. I know I've used this same girl for a couple of previous paintings, but I just love how she looks as though she's walking and all of a sudden she stops and looks back over her shoulder, with her hair blowing in the breeze. Anyway I promise my next girl will be different! I'm really happy with the red/blue combination in this painting, and also how her dress and eye colour match the butterfly. I originally had blue in the background, then I painted over it with red, and I love how the blue still shows through... I think it gives the background depth. For me, butterflies signify hope and new beginnings...it seems I am inspired by anything with wings! I apologise for the quality of the photo.... the light wasn't quite right. Please stop by and say hi, I would love to know what you all think!

Self- Portrait

This is a stylized self-portrait that I recently finished, for a friend of mine who makes my canvases for me. His canvases are works of art in themselves! I have always loved birds and find them very uplifting, so this is what I felt compelled to paint. I had never done a self-portrait until now, and I found it quite enjoyable.... The bee-eater bird was the inspiration behind the colours for my bird!

Young Designer's Markets # 4

This Sunday 5th of July we will be doing another stall at the Young Designer's Markets in South Bank, Brisbane. Please stop by if you are in the area, as there is such a huge range of top quality products at resonable prices. It is from 10-4pm, and there is always such an amazing atmosphere. Here is a little sample of what I will be selling....hope to see you there!

'Glow'

This is my latest commission piece, for a friend of my sister's. I was really happy with how it turned out, especially the colour palette. I wanted to make it seem as though she was basking in the light... or glow of pregnancy. I hope I achieved this!

Young Designer's Market #3

My friends and I recently participated in our third Young Designer's Market, held in Brisbane. We had a very successful day of sales, despite the cold and rainy start to the day. This time I worked within a botanical, vintage theme, creating floral and butterfly illustrations. I was really pleased with how they turned out, and with how professional and eye-catching our stall was. We always have so much fun doing these markets, and were pleased to discover that they will now be held monthly. Lots of work to do!

A little bit of romance

In 2005 I did a painting very similar to this for a motel in Boonah. A lovely Brisbane lady stayed in the particular room in which it hangs, and aksed me to do a similar one for her fiance, as a wedding present. How could I say no? I thought it was such a sweet idea and I was so happy with how it turned out......I actually think it's much better than the original!

Finally finished!

Well I must say I was very relieved when this painting was done! This was a commission piece for a lady who owns a Beauty Salon. The Salon has been decorated in a very Asian/ Feng Shui theme, so my painting of course had to fit in with that. I probably would never do this style of painting by choice, but I'm glad I did because I was totally out of my comfort zone and it extended my boundaries as an artist! I really want to be one of those painters who can do a variety of different styles....the whole time I was asking myself 'Why on earth did I choose such a complicated, intricate pattern?' I do think the time and effort was well worth it though.....what do you think? I will post another picture soon of my next commission piece!

Young Designer Markets

On the weekend my friends and I did a stall at the Young Designers Markets. It was so much fun, our stall was very full and impressive if I do say so myself! This is our second try at it and we probably sold at least 70% of our stock, which is great. You have to keep the prices way down at the markets otherwise you don't sell a thing, but everyone has to start somewhere, establish a following and then build your prices up from there (That's my theory anyway!). It's such a great way to get your name out there and to get exposure, not to mention the joy of creating art with your friends. The floral paintings and the bird silhouettes are mine, the jewellery is Mariette's, and the beautiful bird drawings are Melanie's. I am putting my leftovers on my etsy shop so take a peek!

Day bed

This picture is of a beautifully re-upholstered day bed that I worked on with a lovely customer earlier in the year. She wanted a really neutral look, so we selected three different striped linens- I think the fabrics work together so well...it's very calming to look at- perfect for lazing about on a sunday afternoon.....

Feeling colourful!

I'm in a very summery, colourful mood tonight...aren't these images beautiful with their subtle bursts of colour? Once again, there's the claw-foot bath. I think I'm obsessed! Love the picture cluster with black frames, the duck-egg blue chairs with white piping, the hot pink bolster...ok love it all!
